The Salkantay Trek is a perfect alternative to the classic Inca Trail, providing a unique and less crowded experience. As you traverse the challenging mountain passes, you’ll be rewarded with spectacular panoramic views and a sense of achievement. Along the way, you’ll visit remote Andean villages, interact with friendly locals, and gain insights into their traditional way of life. Trip Itinerary

It presents an alternative route to reach MACHUPICCHU through the SALKANTAY trail, which is considered one of the finest routes. This trek offers a similar level of difficulty to the classic INKA TRAIL and is designed for nature enthusiasts who enjoy immersing themselves in different landscapes and encountering the local flora and fauna.


We will pick you up at 5am and board a bus to MOLLEPATA. After an optional breakfast, we continue our journey to CHALLACANCHA, where we begin a 2 to 3-hour walk along an ancient Inca channel. We reach SORAYPAMPA for lunch, and in the afternoon, you have the opportunity to visit the beautiful Humantay lagoon. We return for dinner and overnight stay.


After an early breakfast, we resume our trek towards the snowy peak of SALKANTAY, the highest point of our tour. We ascend for approximately 4 hours, with a short rest to admire the scenic views along the way. As we continue, we encounter stone mounds called apachetas and hike for an additional 2 hours until we reach WAYRACMACHAY, where we have lunch. We then continue our trek for another 3 hours until we reach CHAULLAY, where we spend the second night and have dinner.


After breakfast, we set off towards COLLCAPAMPA, where we’ll be greeted by diverse landscapes, flora, fauna, and natural waterfalls. The journey takes approximately 5 hours until we reach SAHUAYACO, known as the beach, where we have lunch. From there, we take a car to SANTA TERESA and settle into the camp. You have the option to visit the relaxing hot springs of Cocalmayo, as dinner and overnight stay are not included in the tour.


After breakfast at 8:00 am, we embark on a 30-minute car ride to HIDROELECTRICA, followed by a 3-hour walk to AGUAS CALIENTES. We have lunch and settle into a hostel for the night.


After breakfast at 5:30 am, we take a bus to the MACHUPICCHU archaeological park, where a 2-hour guided tour awaits us. Afterwards, you have free time to explore at your own pace until it’s time to return. Depending on your return train, you can take the bus down to aguas calientes. Arrive at the train station 30 minutes prior to departure for the train to OLLANTAYTAMBO. From there, a bus will be waiting to bring us back to Cusco, marking the end of the tour.
